Some folks collect antique farm equipment, vintage LPs, or black velvet paintings of Elvis. Apparently I collect spanking toys, though it was never really my intention to do so.

Throughout my 20s and early 30s, I denied, resisted and otherwise repressed my interest in spanking.  But it always found ways to assert itself.  Purchasing implements of correction became my main outlet, because it fueled my fantasy, without requiring me to actually interact with other human beings.

But hey, what's the fun of having an overstuffed toy box if you never play?  Over the last seven years or so, I've been on both the giving and receiving end of most of my implements.  (That's one of the advantages to playing with a switchable partner.  We know what the toys feel like.)

Some of these instruments are displayed strictly for psychological impact.  Other toys appear harmless, but can be surprisingly intense (if that's what you're after).

I've listed a few of my favorite spanking implements below.  (Click on the thumbnails to see the full-sized images.)  Used correctly and with great care, each can produce very desirable sensations.

Remember, this is about giving your spankee just enough stimulation to fulfill their fantasy, without ever really hurting them or putting them in danger.  I guarantee, if your partner likes to be spanked, and you can fulfill this need, you'll be an absolute hero in the bedroom.

Happily, some of the very best toys are also the least expensive.  Auntie's Strap (made by The London Tanners) is a no-frills piece of British harness leather.  It's perfect for giving your palm a rest while administering an extended OTK spanking.  I actually own two of these short straps, one made from medium weight leather and the other from much thicker hide.  The lighter strap is a nice little stinger, but the heavy one packs a surprising wallop.  Best of all, each was just 10 bucks.  (Ask Ian if he can make a thick one for you.  I think you'll like it.)

Nobody, but nobody, wants to be bottoms-up in front of Ole Miss.  I purchased this vintage 1972 sorority paddle on EBay for less than $20, with shipping.  She's a bit heavy for actual play, but fun to threaten with.  (Be good, unless you want to dance with Ole Miss!)

An old-fashioned leather belt is just the thing for those impromptu trips to the woodshed, plus you can wear it to the office on casual Fridays.  When I bought this faux-vintage roller belt at Abercrombie & Fitch, the attractive young lady working the cash register couldn't stifle her giggling.  I wonder what she was thinking?

More fine leather work from The London Tanners.  Visit Ian's Web site to see the full range of his work, and tell him Cody at Colorado Spankers sent you.

I've read that in olden times, when French serving girls were lax in their duties they often found themselves on the wrong end of their Master's martinet.  (Grab your ankles, you lazy girl.)  These stingy little devils were made by The London Tanners.

Ian at The London Tanners is now offering a new version of his authentic Canadian prison strap and a new version of his corporal punishment ruler strap.  I bought both of these at one of the Palm Springs Shadow Lane parties and they're among the nicest toys in my collection.  (The ruler strap has a mean sting!)

This Hairbrush Paddle from Adam & Gillian's is the first CP toy I ever purchased, and still one of my personal favorites.  Layers of hard leather sandwich a semi-flexible synthetic core, producing a meaty whack that thuds and burns at the same time.

Serious butt-whuppin' gear: The Big Brother heavy punishment strap, School Mistress strap and a smaller version of Rev. Cooper's tawse, all from Adam & Gillian's.

I really like the quality and finish offered by Hanson PaddleWerks.  Hanson offers an extensive selection of styles and wood types.  For a real rump-roaster, try one of their Lexan paddles.

PaddleWerks' interpretation of the Scottish tawse.  Looks sharp, throws great, stings like heck.

Some of the more mature members of our audience may reminisce about being whipped with Dad's razor strop when they crossed the line.  This excellent reproduction from Hanson PaddleWerks features an industrial vinyl backing, giving you two straps in one.

I'm not really into the BDSM scene, but Heartwood Whips makes such nice floggers, I broke down and ordered one.  Despite its appearance, this toy doesn't hurt much at all, making it ideal for extended play.

The Toy Bag specializes in making implements from exotic hardwoods  This Bocote' Spenser paddle is a work of art, but also quite dense, so use it carefully.

Toy Bag straps with Bloodwood and Cocobola handles.  Nice work.

Taking a trip?  Slip Loopy Johnny from Adam & Gillian's into your travel kit.  As the company says, this little fellow delivers "maximum ouch to the ounce."  Plus he's very quiet.  Perfect for hotel-room sessions.

White Lightning is another devilish toy from Adam & Gillian's.  This soft, polyethylene rod is essentially a switch that never dries out.  A&G claims it's "especially nasty on the bare calves."  I wouldn't know, but let's take their word for it.

WhypDancer at Canes4Pain offers a wide selection of traditional canes and    rods, as well as ornate, one-of-a-kind creations.  My favorite is the whippy 3/16" cane.  It's a real stinger.

Here's a selection of toys I purchased from Exotic Paddles at the April 2004 Shadow Lane party in Las Vegas.  I tend to go a little nuts at the SL vendor fairs because there are so many nice things on display.  (What the heck.)

The London Tanners often creates limited-edition toys for the holidays.  This 2003 Christmas paddle features a lizard-skin inset in the handle.  I gave one of these to a female friend of mine who noted (with a sly grin) that she'd much rather be on the delivering end of it than the receiving end.

Here are several other fine London Tanner implements that I've purchased at the last couple of Shadow Lane parties.  I've observed that most bottoms are not fond of LT's version of Loopy Johnny.  (Something to keep in mind if you have a thick-skinned play partner.)

I'm sorry to say that the artisan behind Satinwood Paddles passed away in late 2007. He produced some of the nicest wood and leather implements in the spanking community.

This isn't an impact toy, but it's great fun if you and your partner enjoy institutional-type scenarios.  I built my Punishment Box using plans purchased from Nu-West several years ago. (They feature similar boxes in several of their videos.)  Obviously you need to have tremendous trust in your partner before consenting to be strapped down over a contraption like this.  Once again, let common sense be your guide.  For more information on the Punishment Box and other forms of spanking furniture, check out The Spanking Bench.
